Ms. Hobert

5~420 School Day
  • Begins at 8:15 am and ends at 2:35. Students who stay for extended day stay until 3:12 pm (Monday-Thursday)
  • Lunch~ 10:35-11:25
  • Specials
    • Monday: 11:25-12:10 Art
    • Tuesday: 1:05-1:50 C.A.T.
    • 1:50-2:35 QTPS
    • Wednesday: 1:05-1:50 Social Studies
    • Thursday: 12:15-1:00 Gym
    • Friday: 1:05-1:50 Computer

Reading Program: 90 minutes

  • Read-Aloud/Think Aloud/Accountable Talk (Test Taking Strategies-such as note-taking), literacy skills, exposure to different genres, fluency modeling, etc….
  • Shared-building comprehension as a group, modeling good skills, etc…(includes weekly assessment)
  • Word Study/Spelling/Vocabulary-vocabulary (includes weekly quizzes on Friday)
  • Grammar
  • Independent Reading/Conferencing with students-students must always have an independent reading book with them. This book should be a book that is on “their level”.
  • Guided Reading- Small Group Instruction
  • Weekly assessments on stories will remain in class in your child’s work folder.
 Math
  • 75 minutes working on different mathematical skills. This includes small group, whole class, etc…
  • Unit tests will be given at the end of every unit. In addition, your child will be tested throughout the unit to measure understanding.
  • Unit assessments remain in the portfolio, but your child will be informed of his/her grade.
 Writing Workshop
  • Mini-lesson on grammar and mechanics
  • Working on a narrative or expository piece of writing
 
  • Homework (45 minutes; per night), with the possible exception of the weekend.
    • Regular homework usually includes the following: reading, math, spelling, and grammar. Also be aware that outside of the classroom teachers may assign homework.
  • Reading (20 minutes per night)
  • Book Summaries (25 Books) Some summaries will be completed in class.
  • State Testing
  •  
    • New York State Language Arts Exam (May)
    • New York State Mathematics Exam (May)
 
  • Interim Testing: Dates to be announced
 
  • Parent Teacher Conferences (Nov. and March )
  • Graduation- Graduation dues will be asked for in advance.
    • Graduation will take place at MS 226
    • Students will also have the opportunity to take graduation pictures.
